For everyday riding in Germany, check both the assistance system and the bicycle equipment. The number 250 W alone does not establish that every control, lamp and supplied component meets the requirements for your intended use.

Check assistance behaviour as well as power

Under German StVZO section 63a, qualifying bicycle assistance has maximum continuous rated power of 0.25 kW and ends by 25 km/h or when pedalling stops. The law allows qualifying starting or walking assistance up to 6 km/h. Other powered operation needs its own classification assessment.

Ask for written confirmation of the delivered controls, continuous rated power and assistance behaviour. An advertised peak figure answers another question. Settings that owners can change do not prove that the supplied vehicle qualifies for ordinary bicycle use.

Inspect lighting and reflectors

StVZO section 67 covers approved bicycle lighting and reflectors. The required setup includes appropriate white front and red rear lighting, with front, rear, pedal and side reflection requirements. Detachable lamps still need to be fitted when darkness or visibility conditions require them.

XT90 does not include rear lighting in the current listed specification. Before night riding, resolve that missing lamp and verify the complete equipment arrangement. Ask for the fitted component details rather than judging approval from brightness, price or appearance.

Prepare one useful order file

  • Exact model, wheel option, supplied controls and motor rating.
  • Matching product identification, compliance information and instructions.
  • Included lamps, reflectors, bell and any separately required equipment.
  • Delivered weight and dimensions relevant to storage and transport.
  • Seller details, order number and routes for reporting faults or delivery damage.

When specifications differ between photos and text, ask which configuration will arrive. Keep the answer with the order record. Do not remove or change labels to make inconsistent documents appear to match.

Plan the trip beyond the product page

Check local signs and rules for your roads, cycle facilities and recreational paths. Public road eligibility does not guarantee access to every trail. For journeys involving trains, confirm the operator conditions separately, especially electrical category, tire fit and lifting requirements.

At home, measure the narrowest doorway, storage turn and stairs. XT90 is listed at approximately 29 kg and does not fold. Those facts matter when the bike must be lifted daily. Do not choose it on motor specifications alone if access to secure storage remains impractical.

The next useful step is to compare the written supplied configuration with your route and equipment list. If the classification or equipment evidence is incomplete, resolve that item before treating the bike as ready for public road riding.
