Folding helps with storage, but it does not automatically make an electric bike acceptable on trains. Check the exact operator, service, travel date, electrical category and luggage conditions before booking the bike and passenger journey.

German DB conditions: category matters

DB's current Pedelec guidance allows pedal assistance up to 25 km/h with motor power up to 250 W. It requires the battery to stay mounted, excludes spare batteries and prohibits charging on board. Passengers must load and unload their bikes themselves.

DB separately allows folded bicycles as hand luggage without bike reservations when stored safely. That folding rule should not be used to bypass the electrical conditions. The current 500 W F6 Pro needs explicit operator confirmation; its compact shape does not establish acceptance.

French services: check the operator and travel date

SNCF Connect lists folded luggage dimensions of 90 × 130 × 50 cm for the cited TGV INOUI and INTERCITÉS arrangements. Assembled bike spaces depend on the service and booking. Do not apply those conditions automatically to OUIGO, TER, Eurostar or connecting operators.

The same page announces restrictions from 13 December 2026 covering fat bikes and bikes exceeding the stated conventional dimensions, including 6 cm tire width. This change takes effect after the review date and does not establish that the announced restrictions are already in force. Confirm its application to your train and travel date.

XT90's nominal 2.6 inch tires equal about 6.6 cm; X5's 4 inch tires equal about 10.2 cm. Those size comparisons need clarification for affected future services, not confirmed refusal on every French train. SNCF also prohibits charging motorised mobility batteries on board.

Measure the actual folded package

F6 Pro lists approximate folded dimensions of 69 × 32 × 52 cm. Include the actual cover and protruding parts when measuring. Compare permitted orientation and all three dimensions rather than assuming that the third number must be matched against the operator's third number. Size fit still does not resolve electrical category or weight.

Try the complete handling routine before travel: fold according to instructions, lift only as permitted, move through the doorway and secure the package without blocking passage. Do not assume station staff will lift or store it for you.

Ask one precise booking question

Give the operator your service, date, motor rating, assistance behaviour, actual folded measurements, complete weight and battery arrangement. Ask whether this exact configuration is accepted, how it must be packed and whether space must be reserved. Save the response with the tickets.

If acceptance remains unclear, choose another transport arrangement before paying for travel. Confirmation for one train does not cover every connecting service.
