Wider tires change the physical package of an electric bike, but tire width alone does not tell you which bike will feel better or travel farther. Compare the complete bike, your route and the places where you need to store or transport it.

Read both numbers in the tire size

In common inch labels, 26 × 2.6 describes the wheel format and nominal tire width. The first number is not the bicycle frame size. Inch names are not enough for replacement compatibility: also read the ETRTO markings on the actual tire and confirm the wheel specification.

Model Current tire information Practical question
XT90 26 × 2.6 inches Will the complete bike fit your storage space and transport holders?
X5 20 × 4 inches Do wheel trays, straps and racks accept this width?
SU7 24 × 1.95 inches Does its frame access and overall size suit everyday stops?
F6 Pro 14 × 2.125 inches Can you manage the folded package and actual lifting weight?
GT300 and GT900 24 or 26 inch wheel options Which wheel option and tire specification will actually be supplied?

Use riding needs to narrow the comparison

For regular paved journeys, start with mounting access, steering comfort, storage and how easily you can reach the controls. For uneven routes, compare tires, suspension, frame suitability and the manufacturer's intended use together. Wider tread does not establish permission or suitability for every trail, beach or winter surface.

Comfort also depends on the tire construction, approved pressure, rider load, saddle and suspension setup. There is no universal pressure for all 2.6 inch or 4 inch tires. Use the applicable tire, rim and bike instructions, and seek help if their stated limits conflict.

Measure the places where width becomes inconvenient

  • Wheel slots at home or work, including how the frame is supported.
  • Car carrier trays and straps, wheelbase limits and individual bike weight limits.
  • Storage doors, turns and space around the handlebar and pedals.
  • Train operator categories, holders and dimensional rules for the actual service.

For example, choosing X5 solely because its 4 inch tires look comfortable can create another problem if your existing carrier accepts narrower tires only. Confirm an approved holder arrangement before treating your current transport setup as usable.

Replacement tires need more than matching width

Record the complete sidewall marking, rim model and any tube information. Tire bead diameter must match the rim, while width also needs suitable rim width and frame clearance. Schwalbe's technical guidance explains these separate compatibility checks.

Do not assume that switching to narrower tires is an approved way to bypass train, carrier or frame restrictions. Changes still need tire and rim compatibility, suitable clearances and approval under the applicable equipment conditions.

Make the final comparison useful

Write three columns for your shortlisted bikes: what fits your route, what fits your storage and what fits your transport. Add actual supplied configuration and servicing needs. If one column is unresolved, obtain that answer before letting tire appearance decide the purchase.

For the two larger tire formats, compare XT90 and X5 alongside battery design, frame shape and confirmed equipment. Confirm X5's motor power and gearing for the actual bike supplied. Do not choose from appearance alone.
